Sediment trap - singleSediment trap - single bottle

A high volume sediment trap used to investigate the vertical flux of particles in the water column. The trap can be deployed in both oceans and inland waters, and can operate in full oceanographic depth. The trap comes with upper/lower bridles so more traps can be connected in series.

Technical data

  • Sediment trap, 0,5m², with honeycomb and plastic bottle, 5L
  • Steering fin.
  • Zinc anode protection against corrosion
  • Inner diameter of cone: 80 cm (0,5m²)
  • Rack and cone is manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel
  • L x W x H: 113 x 138 x 270 cm inclusive, steering fin and upper/lower bridle for adding more traps or lead weights
  • Height of the rack itself: 152 cm
  • Each bridle comes with a swivel
  • Weight 91 kg

The system is delivered with a standard size collecting bottle of 5 L, however if other sizes are required, they can be made. The honeycomb is made out of acrylic plastic, which is fitted into the cone at the top to direct the fall of the sediment, and prevent disturbance in the cone doing deployment.

Time lapsed trigger: Programmable timer for individual release of a maximum of 99 water samplers;

Delay: The delay between each sample is fully programmable at any value between 1 minute and 1080 hours (45 days).

Details: A pressure compensated motor at front

Honeycomb: Top of funnel is covered by a Honeycomb. The funnel has an internal diameter of 570 mm (0,25 m²) or 800 mm (0,5 m²).

Rack for sediment trap: Manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel

Sediment trap station Sediment trap station

The construction of the sediment trap array ensures a permanently vertical position of the sampling tubes during deployment. The steering fin (optional) and the pivot joints force the array to be held at right angle to the current. The system is fully configurable. All parts are detachable and the main rack can be attached with 1, 2, 3 or 4 tubes to suit your needs for analysis. The Sediment Trap consist of detachable cylindrical sampling tubes mounted with lead weights at the bottom. The gimballed tube holders and fin are made of AISI 316 stainless steel. The tubes are made of transparent PVC and have an aspect ratio above 6.

Helley Smith Sampler Helley-Smith sampler

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) originally developed the Helley-Smith sampler for collecting sand, silt, gravel, or rock debris carried by streams above the seabed. The sampler is a good choice for collecting bed load materials, which have a partial size or a density that does not allow great movement above or away from the streambed. It makes it possible to define the rate at which dams can fill and thus improve the ecological continuity of water flows by allowing sediments to be sifted at the right times. The chamber has a square opening of 64 cm² (8 x 8 cm).

As standard, the sampler comes with 100 µm nets on 3 sides, while the top section of the net is 250 µm, other combinations can be made upon request.

Technical data

  • Net bag: Upper part 250 µm, other parts 100 µm, length 54 cm.
  • Sample area 64 cm².
  • Manufactured from 2 mm AISI 316 stainless steel and 6 mm bars for the rack itself.
  • L x W x H: 96 x 25 x 83 cm.
  • Height without pole: 13 cm.
  • Weight 4,2 kg.

Niskin bottle Niskin bottles and rosettes

The water sampler is fully made of PVC and its interior is totally free from metal parts. Top- and bottom plates are held together with a sea water resistant rubber string, and a drop messenger releases the closing mechanism. The KC water sampler can be used singly or in series and closes correspondingly. The Niskin water bottles are also available in a special version, for use with the KC Denmark rosette system.

  • The PVC tube section is a non-metallic construction, so its interior is totally free from metal parts
  • Drainage by a Delrin stopcock, (4,7 mm at base) and an air vent screw
  • End stopper closure band made of sea water resistant Para/Latex tubing. The lids have a spherical section sealing
  • AISI 316 stainless steel mounting clamps
  • Recommended wire diameter: Ø6 mm
  • Standard delivery includes a 400 g drop messenger

Standard delivery for Niskin water bottles is a 400 g drop messenger. If you want to use a centre hanger you must use an 800 g drop messenger. The bottles are compatible with Niskin bottles manufactured by other brands.

Niskin rosetteRosette stations

Rack manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel, with a capacity of 6, 12 or 24 pcs Niskin water samplers. Niskin bottles are non-metallic construction, so its interior is totally free from metal parts. Drainage by a Delrin stopcock and an air vent screw. End stopper closure band made of sea water resistant Para/Latex band.

Features

  • Niskin bottles are available in different sizes from 1,7 to 12,0 L
  • Release system is motor driven (24 Volt DC)
  • Release manually or fully programmable by mounting of an optional time lapsed trigger (max. 99 samples)
  • Trigger includes software: actual status for the samplers, battery voltage, motor current, etc.
  • Room for mounting of a CTD rack
  • Optional: Reversing thermometer assembly
  • 6000 m depth rating

Van Dorn sampler Van Dorn water sampler

The water sampler is based on the Van Dorn design, and has the same characteristic as the Beta™ Van Dorn samplers, suitable for sampling trace metals, organics and other chemical sampling. The water sampler comes in 3 sizes, 2,0 - 3,0 and 5,0 L. The horizontal Van Dorn water sampler is intended for taking water samples near the bottom in lakes, streams, or in stratified water bodies. The water sampler is based on the Van Dorn design. The sampler is made of a sturdy transparent acrylic tube and has a double releaser, activated by a drop messenger. The release system is manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel.

The end seals are EPDM rubber and the tubing is Para rubber. The horizontal water sampler is intended for taking organic water samples near the bottom in lakes, streams, or in stratified water bodies. It is made of sturdy transparent acrylic and has a double releaser, activated by a drop messenger. The releaser is made of AISI 316 stainless steel. Standard delivery has small stainless steel parts inside. Can also be delivered with a non-metallic interior. The water sampler has a standard thermometer, non-mercury. Temperature range between –10 to +60 °C.

Standard drop messenger made of brass. 2 other models available; one has open/close functionality. All samplers are equipped with integrated direction fins for stabilization in flowing water.

Ruttner water sampler Ruttner water sampler

This water sampler is based on the Ruttner design. The sampler is suitable for taking samples in lakes, water borings, wells, etc. Internal thermometer (non-mercury) for registration of the in situ temperature. Temperature range between –10 and +60 °C. For 1,7 L Ruttner the thermometer is scaled -10 to +50 °C. The sampler is also available with no metallic parts inside.  Drop messenger is included. Recommended depth: Max. 70 m. The sampler can be delivered without internal, metallic parts in the sample tube.

Limnos water sampler Limnos water sampler

The water sampler is a modified version based on the Limnos water sampler and provides a fully open interior (free flow) during water sampling. The sampler is suitable for taking samples in lakes, water borings, wells, etc. The water sampler is ergonomically designed - immediately after its lifting, you can place it on its stable base without manually holding the device.

Thermometer: Internal thermometer (non-mercury) for registration of the in situ temperature. Temperature range between –10 and +60 °C.

Emptying the bottle: A small hose allows you to fill small bottles; the hose is attached to a socket, which prevents the hose end from being smeared by sludge near the bottom. For a fast emptying simply, lift the container itself.

Release mechanism: Once you reach the desired depth, release the water sampler by means of a drop messenger.

Recommended depth: Max. 70 m; unlimited depth with dismounted thermometer.
