The AQUAlogger® 210TY is a compact instrument capable of monitoring turbidity, and optionally temperature and/or water pressure at up to 4000 m water depth. The 210 series of data loggers incorporates a replaceable battery providing life expectancy of up to 1 year within a durable housing.

The AQUAtalk software application provides an intuitive and user-friendly software interface for deployment configuration, uploading of data, and quick report generation. New for 2016 is the SSC Converter, which is included as standard in the AQUAtalk package and allows users to convert their turbidity readings to suspended sediment concentration (SSC) with ease.

Optimising your measurements

  • Using our established AQUAtalk software, you can choose your sampling intervals, whether to continuously or burst sample, and whether or not to average data.
  • The fixed and auto gain options in each sensor mean you don’t have to compromise on your measurement range. If you want to focus on a particular turbidity range, choose the most suitable fixed gain. If you want to capture a wider range of variability, select the autogain function, and let the instrument choose the most appropriate option for each burst of samples.

Flexible deployment

  • With a standard depth rating of 1000m, the AQUAlogger 210TY is ideal for a wide variety of deployments, including rivers, lakes, estuaries, coasts and oceans.
  • The sensor takes its readings within 5cm of the optical window, reducing the possibility for interference. Our cabled sensor option increases the possibilities for deploying in tight spaces.
  • Aquatec’s reliable data logging system means long-term unattended deployments are now possible. External battery packs can extend your deployment even further, allowing for higher frequency sampling.

  • The AQUAlogger® 210TY measures turbidity in FTU, which can be converted to suspended sediment concentration using collected in-situ samples or laboratory analysis in the new SSC Converter within AQUAtalk.

Now included as standard in the AQUAtalk software package is the SSC converter – you can convert your turbidity readings to suspended sediment concentration (SSC) with ease. The conversion can be applied pre or post deployment via one of three methods: ‘Measure’, ‘Calculate’ or ‘Coefficients’.

Methods

By using collected in-situ samples or carrying out laboratory analysis, you can select the ‘Calculate’ or ‘Measure’ methods and let the software do the work. Alternatively, previous conversion coefficients can be easily applied using the ‘Coefficients’ method. The transparent process allows you to keep accurate records of conversions and continually add samples to increase the accuracy.

Measure

If you have solutions with known suspended sediment concentrations and need to measure the turbidity, you can use the ‘Measure’ method. The turbidity of samples can be measured by the logger and their corresponding concentrations added for up to 50 samples. You can then select the most appropriate conversion and apply to existing or future datasets. The software gives the option of saving the conversion for future use, or adding further samples as they become available.

Calculate

If you have carried out previous analyses or want to use in situ data, the ‘Calculate’ method can be used. Known turbidity values and their corresponding concentrations can be manually added, before selecting a suitable conversion and applying to existing or future datasets. The software gives the option of saving the conversion for future use.

Coefficients

If you have previously carried out a conversion and have the coefficients available, they can be manually entered into the software and applied. The SSC Converter allows you to save a record of your conversion for future use. If you want to use the same conversion again, you can simply input or load the data from the record and apply it to your logger.

Q: I want to measure temperature against depth in metres.

A: A conversion from pressure to depth is now standard for AQUAlogger® 210TY instruments.

Q: How many parameters can I measure at one time?

A: The standard parameters offered for the instruments are turbidity, pressure and temperature. A larger range of parameters are available as custom instruments.  

Q: How long do the batteries last?

A: A battery life calculator is available for the instrument. Prior to purchase, we can help you plan your deployment and calculate your battery requirements. External batteries are available for long deployments.

Q: How can I prevent biofouling of the optical sensor?

A: An automated wiper can be supplied with the instrument to reduce the impact of biofouling.

Q: Does the wiper run on the main battery, shortening the logger’s battery life?

A: The wiper has its own battery and will not impact on the battery life of the logger.

Q: Can we replace the batteries ourselves?

A: The batteries are technician replaceable. A spare battery is supplied with the instrument and further batteries are available on request. Please note, your warranty will be void for leaks if the instrument is opened. A battery change is offered as standard in an annual service.

Q: We need to trigger a machinery shutdown if the turbidity levels get to high – can this be done with the 210TY?
